Important Notes & What to Expect
● For a Natural Delivery without complications, you may begin massage as soon as you feel comfortable (often starting in the first week).
● For a Cesarean Section (C-Section), light, modified massage focusing on the back, shoulders, arms, and legs may begin as early as Week 2 postpartum, provided you have received medical clearance from your physician. Direct work on the abdomen and scar should be strictly avoided until the incision is fully healed.
● Post-Massage Effects: It is normal to feel some slight muscle soreness or tenderness. Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water will help reduce this effect.
● Our Therapists Are Certified: All of our massage therapists are certified in postnatal massage and are trained to understand the specific needs of an mother's body. Your safety and comfort are our top priorities.
Benefits of Postnatal Massage
Postnatal massage is a specialized and safe form of massage therapy designed to address the unique physical and emotional needs of a mother during her recovery period. It is performed by a certified therapist who understands the physiological changes and considerations following childbirth.
● Muscle & Body Relief: Eases muscle tension and soreness in the back, neck, and shoulders caused by labor, birthing positions, and the new physical demands of holding, nursing, and carrying a baby.
● Reduced Swelling (Edema): Helps to stimulate the lymphatic system and improve overall circulation, assisting the body in expelling excess fluids and reducing common postpartum swelling.
● Hormone & Mood Regulation: Aids in stabilizing hormones and decreasing levels of the stress hormone cortisol, which can significantly help alleviate symptoms of fatigue, anxiety, and postpartum blues.
● Enhanced Healing & Circulation: Increases blood flow to help deliver nutrients to healing tissues, promoting quicker recovery from both Natural and C-Section births (while avoiding direct work on the incision).
Benefits of Postnatal Massage
It is essential to consult with your doctor or midwife before booking a postnatal massage, especially if you have any health concerns or experienced complications during labor
Postpone Massage If You Have Any of the Following:
● Rashes or Active Skin Conditions: Massage should be avoided over areas with rashes, severe eczema, open wounds, blisters, or contagious skin conditions to prevent irritation or the spread of infection. If the rash is still active (unsettled), the massage may need to be postponed or restricted to unaffected areas only.
● Fever or Acute Infection: Including severe vomiting, diarrhea, or an active infection like Mastitis (inflammation/infection of the breast).
● Unilateral Leg Swelling, Localized Heat, Redness, or Pain: Possible signs of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT/blood clots), which is a life-threatening contraindication.
● Severe Postpartum Hemorrhage or other significant unmanaged medical complications.
